Larry Lopez

Director of Accelerating Commercialisation, Department of Industry, Innovation and Science, Chair West Tech Fest

Larry provides support and advice to the Australian Government’s Department of Industry, Innovation and Science on the delivery of the Accelerating Commercialisation element of the Entrepreneurs’ Programme. 

He is responsible for leading the Government’s efforts to identify and help emerging businesses, entrepreneurs and researchers commercialise novel products, processes and services with significant market potential.  

For the year ended 30 June 2017 Accelerating Commercialisation made $55 million in grants available to 116 projects. Larry has a deep background in financing pre-revenue and startup projects, and has held senior roles in corporate banking, investment banking and venture capital management. 

Prior to moving to Australia in 2006, Larry spent 17 years at Silicon Valley Bank. During his tenure at SVB he held various senior and executive positions, and played a key role in growing the company from a local community bank to a global leader in providing financial services for knowledge based companies and investors.  

Larry is a director of several technology related private companies and venture capital funds, and sits on a number of not for profit boards in Australia and the United States.
